John James Roofing is a local, family-run business established in 1984 by John James senior. Specialising in small roof repairs and overhauls we pride ourselves in our no job too small quick response policy.

The company is now run by his son Steve James who, before taking over in 2001, also enjoyed success with his own roofing and roofline company, Broughty Cladding, before selling it on along with two national awards for customer care and excellence.

We are proud members of the trading standards Trusted Traders Scheme and Broughty Ferry Traders Association. As a member of the Dundee Trusted Trader Scheme we are bound by their dispute resolution process, further details can be found at: http://www.trustedtrader.info/consumers/dispute-resolution-process-to-resolve-complaints/

Steve served his time as a joiner but has had the best of both trades having worked on roofs with dad since the age of 13, and can combine both trades essential for roofline cladding, velux windows, single ply, and asphalt flat roofing.

The business was established in 1984 by John James senior and is now run by his son Steve James. Although retired, John acts as a consultant to the business – drawing on his 60 years’ experience in roofing when required.

The rest of the team is made up of roofers Steve Abbott, Ryan Mitchell and James Colvin...yes the boss is Steve James and the team is Steve & James – just so you won’t forget their names.

We are proud of the fact that our family roots can be traced back to the original steeple jacks of Dundee - roofing has been in our blood for many years

History

Back in the eighties, John senior talked and consulted on a lot of property maintenance programs for Radio Tay and even thought up his own advert in the days of Dallas and Dynasty – John James being the handsome actor starring in the latter.

John came up with...John James Dynasty star? No, John James slaters and roofers says ‘Dinna stay under leaking roofs’ call John James Roofing Services.

‘Dinna stay under leaking roofs’ is still our slogan to this day and is the strapline above our logo. Outwith the business John senior was honoured by the Queen for all his charity work, marathon running, work with the Boys’ Brigade and was awarded the B.E.M.

Roof overhauls and yearly roof checks, either post or pre winter, is a big part of our work and encourages people to maintain their roof and keep up with general wear and tear.

Facebook keeps us in daily contact with our customer base, allowing us to share and showcase our workmanship, with before and after photographs of our latest jobs whether it be roofline, re-tile/slate, Velux installation or our newest product Filon asbestos over roof system.

This is a commercial product which Steve has introduced to domestic roofing as an answer to re-roofing corrugated garage roofs which are made up of cement fibre with a slight content of white asbestos, although not dangerous which can be costly to dispose of. filon roofing image

Filon is specifically designed to fit over existing corrugate roofs in any profile which is metal

or cement based. Sheets are made of GRP and run the full length of a domestic garage with no centre overlap which can cause water ingress in this type of flat roof.

The product comes ‘made to measure’ with coated metal flashings and new bolts. It is maintenance free and usually fitted with PVCu fascia and gutter which complements our PVCu roofline jobs.

We are passionate about promoting apprenticeships in our area.

We have Ryan, our final year apprentice working with us and attending Angus College through the CITB apprenticeship scheme.

Through our own business and the Broughty Ferry Traders Association we liaise with Enable Scotland, Jobcentre Plus and Grove Academy to promote work experience and more importantly apprenticeships in our local area.

John James Roofing take a pride in its past, while living in the present and investing in the future.

“It’s already such an honour to be short listed into the final, however The Sottish House Award for roofing specialist of the year would mean so much to our wee family business, and to Broughty Ferry, as we thrive to preserve small local businesses in the present financial climate”

John and Steve strive to ensure a bright future for the business and its employess... whatever the weather!
